How to fix svchost.exe constant high cpu usage & speed up your computer

svchost provides a shared service process on Windows computers allowing a number of services to run under it in-order to reduce resource consumption, while this approach is smart saving system resources this makes diagnosing and rectifying issues tough as you need to dig out the exact service running under svchost.exe process causing issues.

One of the most common issue with svchost.exe is it consuming constant high CPU usage in background, the same issue occurred on my computer where svchost.exe was constantly using 40% processor cycles in computer idle position on my 4 Core CPU. The solution to this involved identifying the culprit service running behind this process and disabling it as demonstrated after the jump.

svchost.exe is a generic host process name for services that run from dynamic-link libraries and any one of these underlying dll's/services can be the cause of constant background CPU usage, here is how to identify the problematic service and disabling it on Microsoft Windows 7:

Open "Windows Task Manager" (CTRL+SHIFT+ESC) and switch to "Performance" tab. Now, click the "Resource Monitor" button.

Switch to "CPU" tab in "Resource Monitor" and click svchost.exe row, As we can see the bottom pane now shows "UPnP Device Host" eating-up CPU cycles in this case.

We can now right-click the service and stop it from here only or launch services.msc mmc panel to disable it all together.

As you can see now the CPU usage is now back to normal.

Repairing Undetected SD Card

1) download and Install the Panasonic SD Formatter
2) Make sure your SDcard is detected and start the SD Formatter program. Your drive should be detected in the program
3) Set Options
Format Type: Full (Erase ON)
Format Size Adjustment: On
4) click the format button and wait...
Once formatting is completed you can try inserting the disk into the device and if it worked you'll see a quick database refresh and you can go to Settings > Info, and you'll see the memory listed for the SD.
if it still doesn't work put your microSD back into your computer and open up the Rhapsody player. It should detect the drive letter for your card. Right-click on the card and select "Format Device". I did a quick format.
Next copy a couple of songs onto the device and then safely disconnect it from your computer (right click on device in Rhapsody and select "Disconnect".
Hopefully the disk will now work on your device.

for those of you that is not able to format theirs try this method
Look in cmd and type "diskpart" and then "list disk". After that is done, you select your sd Type in: "select disk 1" where 1 is the number of your sd it can be 0 or 4 just look in the list and after type clean then create partition primary select partition 1 active format fs=ntfs assign exit hit enter after each command Good Luck.

Gunmen Kill Esteemed Polytechnic Lecturer, While His Driver Miraculously Escapes Death

The Head of the Science Department at the Niger State Polytechnic, Alhaji Abdulrashid Abdullahi, has been killed by three gunmen on the Zungeru-Tegina highway on January 30, 2014, Thursday.

According to NAN, Abdullahi was killed while on an official trip to Kaduna.

Abdullahi’s driver, Malam Hussaini Babangida, told a shocking story to the newsmen: Gunmen stopped us at an abandoned check-point after the Zungeru Bridge. I stopped because I thought they were security men but they immediately went for Abdullahi’s door with a machete. I tried to drive away but I heard the lecturer shout, I have been shot as they could not open his door. I drove the vehicle very fast back to Zungeru, where the lecturer was pronounced dead at a hospital.

He said that nothing was taken away from them. The state’s Police Public Relations Officer, Mr Richard Oguche, confirmed the incident. He described the attack as a robbery attempt, saying that the police had begun investigation into the incident to bring the attackers to justice.

The state’s Commissioner for Tertiary Education, Dr Bashar Nuhu, also confirmed the incident.Nuhu described Abdullahi as a humble and hardworking lecturer. The Commissioner expressed his ministry’s condolences to Abdullahi’s family and the polytechnic community.

He prayed that Almighty Allah would grant him eternal bliss and his family the fortitude to bear the loss. I’m touch by his death, he added.

HOW TO UNLOCK ANDROID PHONES AFTER TOO MANY PATTERN ATTEMPTS AND Other OS

On Android phones you can activate a feature called pattern lock. This feature can be compared to a Windows computer asking for password after the screen saver kicked in, only instead of a password you use a pattern. You get a screen with 9 dots and you draw a pattern of your choice with 4 of them. If you forget your pattern (or have kids that likes to play with phones) you will after 3 faulty attempts be unable to use the pattern to unlock it. Instead you are asked for your Google account and password (that is setup with the phone of course). This is where the problem starts.

For many, many users providing the username and password won’t change a thing. For some people changing the password via a computer has worked but that is uncommon.


PREFERENCE BEFORE MAIN UNLOCK

Some workarounds to try before reading ahead:
1. try entering null as password(together with your google username)
2. try entering your username without @gmail.com
3. Combine 1 and 2
4. Call yourself from another phone, answer, without hanging up press the home button, then menu button, settings, try to disable pattern-lock

5. Call yourself from another phone, answer, hang-up, directly after hanging up start pressing your buttons like a madman for 30-60 seconds ending with your home button (might take a while to get the timing right). Go into settings and disable pattern-lock.
6. Try the normal recover password routine from GMail.com and start over from 1.
7. Perform a factory reset. YOU WILL LOOSE all not-synced DATA (SD card will be left untouched).

1-6 are possible workarounds, it doesn't work for everyone but can be worth a try to avoid factory reset.
6. is what should work but hardly never does.
7 - The factory reset always work IF THE ABOVE DOESN'T WORK FOR YOU, THEN FACTORY RESET IS AN OPTION.

WAR IN LASU UPDATE: Students Disrupt Exams, Stone Vice Chancellor

Students of the Lagos State University (LASU) went on the rampage on Thursday, disrupting the university’s second semester examination and destroying properties in the process.

The students had closed and halted all activities Wednesday night as they protested within and in front of the school premises, while blocking the main gate and making bonfires on the Lagos-Badagry expressway.

According to eyewitness, the students threw stones and sticks at the University Vice Chancellor Prof. John Obafunwa, as he tried to evade them.





It was gathered that before the 6-months ASUU strike which ended in December, the school's website had been closed down by the school authorities, preventing students from completing their registration. Now the strike is over, exams are starting and the portal is still closed.

One of the students who claimed anonymity said, "Now that we have resumed, it is still the same thing. Exam is starting today and some students haven't yet registered. The Vice Chancellor said he is not going to open the portal which means all the students affected will have extra year after paying 250,000 as school fees. Most of the affected students paid N250,000 as school fees. Normally, the web portal is closed down a week before exam. The affected final year students will have to get an extra year. It won't cost the VC a dime to order the opening of the portal. That was the reason for yesterday's protest."





According to the students, only 708 were able to register before the portal was shut again leaving, 1292 students to their fate.

When the students union government went to plead on behalf of the students, the VC was reported as saying those yet to register are insignificant and would automatically have to carry the session over, a statement which infuriated the students and they decided to take laws into their hands.




Efforts to speak with the Dean of Students Affairs, Prof. Kabiru Akinyemi, was not successful as he said he cannot comment on the matter now.

However the speaker of the Students Parliamentary Council, Sodiq Adewunmi Sanni, while speaking with journalist said, “The university management needs to consider the students, they are paying the highest school fees for a state university in Nigeria. Even though I am not affected, the students’ school fees is outrageous. They have gone through a lot and to now deny them registration is not in anybody’s good interest.

He therefore advised that the management postpone the exams till next week, so as to accommodate the 1292 students that are yet to register.

Lagos Lawmakers Interfere LASU Crisis

The Members of the Lagos State House of Assembly have summoned the Commissioner of Education, Mr. Yinka Oladunjoye, the management of the Lagos State University (LASU) and the Students Union Government over students’ protest.

The Chairman of the House Committee on Education, Science and Technology, Mr. Wahab Alawiye-King brought the notice to the House at plenary on January 23, 2014, Thursday, under matter of urgent public importance.

Mr. Alawiye-King (APC-Lagos Island II), appealed to LASU authorities to reopen the portal for two days, to enable the students register for the examination, so as to halt the current crisis.

He said students were to commence the second semester examination two weeks after resumption, but without the necessary registration, no student could write the examination.

It would be noted that the issue generated a heated debate at the plenary, as the lawmakers saw the issue from different perspectives, which almost resulted in an open disagreement.

Mr. Adeyemi Ikuforiji, the Speaker, was compelled to call for a short adjournment to enable the legislators resolve the issue at a parliamentary session.

The Speaker later announced the decision of the lawmakers to invite the mentioned stakeholders to plenary, to brief the House.

It would be recalled that the students staged a peaceful protest on over the closure of the university’s portal by the authorities on January 22, 2014, Wednesday.

However, they went on the rampage on Thursday, disrupting the university’s second semester examination and destroying properties, as the alleged closure of the portal had deprived the students from registering for the second semester examination.

Protesting students of Lagos State University (LASU) have said that the assault launched against one of their colleagues by the institution's Vice Chancellor, Prof. John Obafunwa, was actually what triggered off the violent protests.

The protest had gone up for second day when some aggrieved students, who said the University Portal had been closed against their registration had besieged faculties of law, social sciences and the MBA building in the early hours of January 23, 2014, Thursday.

Some of the students, who spoke with Daily Trust correspondent at the Ojo campus of the institution, said the protest which began on Wednesday and was not designed to take a violence approach not until one of their colleagues, who was said to have gone and knelt down before the Vice Chancellor, was alleged to have been kicked away.

“We were not meant to be violent. We just want the management to have a change of heart and allow extension in the registration process. ANOTHER UNI PROTEST: Students In Jonathan's Hometown Protest Increase In Tuition Fees

On Thursday, activities of the Federal University, Otuoke, Bayelsa State, were paralyzed by students who protested increase in school fees and a six-week forced break.

Students have blocked the roads to the Otuoke Community and the institution, saying the increase from N55,000 to N 85,000 is unacceptable.

A number of business outlets in the hometown of Nigeria's President Goodluck Jonathan also had to close because of the protest.

The students say the increase in tuition fees does not correspond to the facilities available.

"We are studying under very tedious conditions," one of the students lamented. "We don't have power and water, most of us buy water and contribute money to buy power generating set."

However, Vice Chancellor of the university Professor Mobolaji Aluko has denied the insinuations. He explained that the pioneer set of students were already in the first semester of their second year, while the second set were in the second semester of their first year because the flood that ravaged the state in 2012 affected the academic calendar of the university.

"The students who are in their first academic year, second semester, had all paid these fees. No increase in fees. What they mean by increase in fees is that the pioneer students pay a certain fee schedule and the non-pioneer students pay a certain fee schedule," he maintained.

"We have the second set of students and we have the third set of students.”

"When the pioneers came in, their fees were N45,000 for tuition and accommodation. By the end of their first year before this second set came in, we increased it to N50,000, but separated the accommodation fees from it. It is for pioneer students and they will pay that till they graduate.

"The second set of students, humanities and social science, paid N72,000, and science students will pay N80,000. Of the fees, N16,000 of it was for acceptance fees, I.D cards fees paid only once.

"After the first year, they will be paying N50,000 for humanities and social sciences and N58,000 for science students," the Vice Chancellor said.

The students also opposed the decision by the University management to impose six weeks break to, as it has been explained, adjust the academic calendar.

One of the students has wondered why the students are sent home when the University was not affected by the ASUU strike.

The university is one of the public universities established by the Goodluck Jonathan's administration.

LASU Graduates Cry Out - We Need Our Certificates

Thousands of part-time programme graduates of the Lagos State University, Lagos, western Nigeria, now roam the streets daily in frustration following the refusal of the institution to present them with their results and certificates.

While many of the graduates have been forced into menial jobs just to earn money barely enough to feed themselves, others have merely resigned to fate taking things as they come years after graduating from the institution without a proof.

“You can see where I work now. I never thought that I would end up fixing hair,” Olusegun Adebayo, one of the affected graduates told P.M.NEWS at Ikeja.

“Now I’m a hustler. I have realised that I wasted a good number of years thinking I was going to school, hustled to pay my tuition, read so hard for the examinations. Five years after graduation, I can’t even tell people I attended a university.”

He said the university management had continued to conceal the true situation and instead has been raising their hopes.

“We need our results. We have tried several options to no avail. We may be forced therefore to take the laws into our hands one day,” he warned.

According to Wale Otusanya, who was admitted to study Mass Communication in the 2002/03 academic session, the problem started in 2005, when the university management did not fulfil its promise to make results available at the end of every session.

He stated that all efforts to get their results ever since have been frustrated by the university management.

Otusanya noted that on two occasions in 2011, students were asked to bring their complete course forms from 100 Level to 400 Level, yet nothing came out of that verification exercise.

Investigation by P.M.NEWS showed that the institution may not have known the true identities or names of the graduates who have the problem. This is because there are no verifiable documents to show that the students actually graduated from the institution.

A call made to the Vice Chancellor for his reaction was not taken. The VC did not also respond to a text message by our correspondent.
